The Martian- Permission to View PG-13
Our upcoming charter bus trip to and from Kennedy Space Center is approximately 2 1/2 hours. It has become a CDS tradition to watch Apollo 13 on our way there and, with parent permission, The Martian on our way home. Both films connect beautifully to our 6th-grade interdisciplinary rocketry unit of study in Science, Design Technology, and Math. Gary Herdsman, a GeekDad.com contributor, writes that "The themes of persistence and endurance and of the ordinary person doing extraordinary things under pressure are a healthy food for young minds." Common Sense Media rates The Martian appropriate for ages 12+. (You can read more about their review at https://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/the-martian.)
