What to Expect:
  • This event is an in-person  panel discussion (please see questions to expect,  below)
  • The panel will run from 10:00am-11:00am
  • Virtual Panel - If available, The  panel will be live-streamed for students to watch from their home schools if they are not able to attend in person. 
  • Please bring any materials you feel would be interesting/relevant to students 
  • Student Information:  We expect 50-75 students for this event.  We will update you as the event draws near.  Students are from grades 9-12, attending districts in Cumberland, Dauphin, and Perry counties. 
  • PCD will provide communication and details as the date becomes closer, as well as quick response to any questions you may have.  Please direct questions to Anne Lauritzen, anne@crpcd.org

Panelist Questions:

1.      Introductions: Please share your name, organization, position, and a brief summary of what your organization does.

2.     Please tell us your career journey:  What was your education? Was the traditional school curriculum right for you? What decisions did you make along the way that brought you to your current organization and position?   

3.     What is your favorite thing about your career?  What is your least favorite thing?

4.     Does your organization have opportunities for internships/job shadows/pre-apprenticeships/summer jobs for high school students?

5.     What kind of person are you looking for in the “right hire”?  

6.     What are the salary ranges for your career?

7.   What are the educational requirements for those positions- we like to demonstrate that there are opportunities for all, whether through on-the-job training, certification/apprenticeships, 2-year or 4-year postsecondary degrees.

8.     What is one piece of advice you would offer a high school student considering Engineering as a career? 


PCD provides students with an "artifact" (form to fill out) to demonstrate they have attended and learned about careers. This is used to comply with a PA Department of Education mandate.
