Toss Up Question Writing Instructions: 

  1. Can be from a variety of topics that span the field's breadth and can even come from current events.
  2. Each question must have a place name either in the question or the answer. 
  3. Keep the length of the toss up questions to no more than six lines of text. 
  4. Try and keep the level at around what an undergraduate GEOG major would need to know. 
  5. The first part of your question should clue the listener into what it is you are looking for —a city, country, state, river, person, theory...
  6. Start with the most difficult hints and gradually progress through hints to reveal the answer.

Here's an example of a Toss Up:

"Geographical Indications identify the geographic origin of a particular good that signifies a given quality, reputation, value, or some other characteristic that is derived from that origin. While there are 14 registered geographic indications in Mexico, this particular spirit must be made from blue agave and be produced in the State of Jalisco and a few other municipios outside of it. For ten points, name this spirit which shares a name with its Geographical Indication."
