What are some of the words you’ve heard repeatedly in the news over the last two months?
Besides words like quarantine, pandemic, new normal, Covid, unprecedented, and social-distancing, we’ve heard the word “essential.”
An “essential” is something necessary for the existence of a thing.
What are the three “essentials” for physical life to continue?
Clear selection
Let’s focus on the necessity of water for a moment. The body needs about 3 quarts of water a day to operate efficiently. It helps break up and soften food. The blood, which is 90 percent water carries nutrients to the cells. As a cooling agent, water regulates our temperature through perspiration. And without its lubricating properties, our joints and muscles would grind and creak like unused parts of some old rusty machinery. Without water our physical bodies lose power. Water functions like a fuel for our bodies. Water is an essential to sustain life.
Now look at the three essentials for our spiritual well-being. God is essential in our creation, Jesus is essential for our salvation, and Holy Spirit is essential for our living out the Christian life. Our relationship with God is totally dependent on what God has done through Jesus Christ, and the power that moved through Him and ultimately raised Him from the dead gives us the power to live a dynamic Christian life today.
What are the things that motivate you to get up and go to work everyday?
Whether you receive your motivation to work from your desire to feed your family, pay your bills, or purchase a house, you receive power and drive from them. Your motivation is transferred into action.
What motivates you to live an authentic Christian life everyday?
What convinced you to WANT to live a Christian life?  It was the Holy Spirit. See, it is completely possible to live in this world without a spiritual influence, but it is completely impossible to live as a Christian in this world without the influence of the Holy Spirit providing motivation and power. Through your new identity in Christ, you have all the potential you need to live as a new creation in Christ. But without the Holy Spirit working in you, you would have no desire to live that way.
Galatians 5:16— But I say, live by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh.
John 3:5-7— Jesus answered, “Truly I tell you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit.
