2023 Point in Time Count

Each year, the Long Island Continuum of Care (NY-603) conducts a census of all people experiencing homelessness in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The data collected is used to better determine homeless service needs, allocate proper resources, raise community awareness, and measure the local and national progress towards preventing and ending homelessness.

We need the help of volunteers to survey and count all the people who are living unsheltered - whether that be in their car, in the woods, or on the street. Volunteers will be assigned groups based on their preferences for locations to be surveyed and time of day they are available to conduct the count. We are also looking for volunteers, especially those with experience in social work, street outreach, or have lived experience of homelessness, to act as team leaders. Team leaders will be required to undergo additional training and will be responsible for coordinating with their team before and during the count.

Please answer the following questions to let us know your availability for completing the count and any prior experience. Follow up information on trainings and team assignments will be sent to contact addresses provided.

The PIT Count will take place the day of Wednesday January 25, 2023. Morning, midday, and evening times will be available for volunteers to complete their part of the count. Training dates are TBD.
