Dear Chairman Kennedy,

We, the Save Aviators Committee (SAC), are writing to follow up on an email dated 02-08-2024 sent to you requesting an in-person meeting with you to discuss the County’s decision not to renew Mr. Cheung-Sang Chik’s sublease at the Sacramento Executive Airport. Many of us have corresponded with your office and we are not satisfied with the vague and contradictory responses that have been sent back to us.

Mr. Chik has operated the Aviators Restaurant for nearly 25 years and the establishment serves a large constituency of working class and fixed income families. It is a safe and affordable place to eat for residents all across Sacramento County and visitors far beyond. On behalf of the over 4,000 signatories on the Change.org petition in support of saving Aviators, we want to discuss with you in detail the following issues:

1) The results of the “survey” sent out by the Department of Airports.

2) The rationale behind the decision not to renew Mr. Chik’s lease and to open an RFP to replace Aviators.

3) The economic issues driving the County’s efforts that have been implied in correspondence and public statements.

4) How the County will reconcile what appears to be much larger operational problems faced by the County Department of Airports by forcing a successful small business concession at Sacramento Executive Airport out of business and replacing it with an untested new concession.

5) The public process that will be followed as the County moves forward in this effort and the guarantees of due process and transparency for the community to participate in the decision.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this request. Please direct your response to the Save Aviators Committee at savesacaviators@gmail.com. We look forward to your response.

Respectfully submitted,

Supporters Mr. Cheung-Sang Chik and Aviators Restaurant (Listed alpha by last name).
