2023 Harrison County Popcorn Festival Pageant - Queen Contest Registration

Calling all Queens in Harrison County! This is going to be a really fun experience. Thank you for applying!!!
Ages 16, 17, 18, 19, 20

Thoroughly read each section and initial the rules and regulations then submit your application to Cory Williams, Pageant Chairperson, no later than Friday, June 23rd. You can:
1.) Submit this form online;
2.) Print and drop off your form to Cory Williams at Schuler Bauer Real Estate Services, 1711 Old Hwy 135 NW, Corydon, IN 47112; or
3.) Print and mail this form to Cory Williams, c/o Popcorn Festival Pageant, P.O. Box 460, Corydon, IN 47112.

There is a $35 entry fee. Registration and payment must be received no later than Friday, June 23rd. Contestants are encouraged to find a sponsor to cover their entry fee - a family member, a local business, etc. Cash or check. Make checks payable to: Harrison County Popcorn Festival

:::IMPORTANT DATES:::
Tuesday, June 27th, at Noon
- Preliminary judging will be held on Tuesday, June 27th, at Corydon Central High School in the auditorium.
- Contestants can check in between 11:00 a.m. and noon.
- In order to compete, contestants must be present no later than noon.
- Interviews can begin as early as noon.
- A box lunch will be provided at approximately 3:00 p.m.
- The red carpet will roll out at 5:00 p.m.
- The contest/pageant is open to the public. It will begin at 6:00 p.m. and last approximately 90 minutes.
- Invite everyone you know! There is no charge for the public to enter. Donations will be accepted for the Queen Scholarship.

:::CROWNING:::
The crowning of the 2023 Harrison County Popcorn Festival Queen will be Tuesday, June 27th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Corydon Central High School auditorium. There are 4 categories:
- Interview and (business) professional wear;
- Casual attired (Show off your personality!);
- Formal wear (long, formal dress required); and
- Community involvement/leadership.

The following will be crowned and rewarded. Rewards include crowns, sashes, trophies, bouquets, cash, and a number of other phenomenal prizes:
- Queen
- 1st Runner-up
- 2nd Runner-up
- Miss Congeniality

All contestants are encouraged to but all winners must assist with the Princess, Little Kernel, and Little Kernelette contests held on Saturday, July 1st at the Hurley D. Conrad Memorial Bandstand on the Square in downtown Corydon. In addition, all winners must be in the parade at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 1st.

:::FESTIVAL:::
All winners must be in attendance at the festival Friday evening and all day Saturday, June 30th and July 1st.
- Winners will be available for photos with the general public. The youth, especially little girls, look up to festival royalty!
- Winners will be presents at various activities and events taking place Friday and Saturday. i.e. Kid Zone, movie night, car show, cornhole tournament, etc.
- Winners will assist in handing out awards throughout the festival.

:::PARADE:::
All winners will be in the annual Harrison County Popcorn Festival parade - Queen contest, Princess contest, and Littles contests.
- The parade begins at 7:00 p.m. Additional information for check-in and the parade route will be provided to the winners upon crowning.
- Winners must ride in a convertible car. No Jeeps, SUVs, or trucks. Should you need help locating a convertible car, contact Cory Williams, Pageant Chairperson, at (812) 267-3022 or via e-mail at: PopcornFestivalPageant@gmail.com

:::PASSING THE TORCH:::
The Queen agrees to return in 2024 to crown the winners. Among the additions for 2023, the Harrison County Popcorn Festival Queen will receive a $1,000 scholarship upon completion of her reign.

Rules and Regulations

Rules and Regulations *

Preliminary judging for the Queen contest will be held Tuesday, June 27th, in the Corydon Central High School auditorium at noon.

Crowning of the 2023 Harrison County Popcorn Festival Queen will be held on Tuesday, June 27th at 6:00 p.m. in the Corydon Central High School auditorium.

The winners must be prepared to attend evening and daytime events at the Harrison County Popcorn Festival on Friday, June 30th, and Saturday, July 1st, and be in the parade at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 1st.

The contestants will be judged in four categories: interview/(business) professional wear; casual attire (Let your personality shine!); formal wear (long, formal dress required); and community involvement/leadership. Contest officials stress that this is not a beauty contest; the contest is to find a good representative for Harrison County through community activities.

Each contestant must be between the ages of 16 and 20 years old as of June 1, 2023.

Contestants and their families must conduct themselves in a manner consistent with respect for other contestants, judges, and the Harrison County Popcorn Festival. The contestants and families must be of good moral character. Any attitudes, actions, or activities considered disrespectful or out of good moral character during festival activities or any event representing Harrison County can, and may, result in immediate removal of the contestant at any point prior to the crowning, or removal of title and require that all awards, gifts and prizes be relinquished. The decision to recall a contestant or remove the title of Harrison County Popcorn Festival Queen due to moral character is that of the Harrison County Popcorn Festival Committee and shall be final.

Contestant agrees to have her photograph made at the discretion of the Harrison County Popcorn Festival Queen contest. It is understood that this photograph may be used in any manner in connection with publicity for the Harrison County Popcorn Festival.

All contestants with Facebook and other social networking websites should ensure that any picture and/or comments that would be considered questionable to others under the “Moral Character” clause should be removed. Any inappropriate posts, comments, or pictures found on such sites could result in the disqualification of a contestant or the queen losing her title, awards, gifts and prizes as the Harrison County Popcorn Festival Queen. Contestants should list their social media accounts on the application. A member of the Pageant Committee may follow your social media accounts during your run for or reign for Queen.

Contestants will not partake of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, or other controlled substances while representing Harrison County Popcorn Festival as a contestant or Queen. Contestants will not smoke cigarettes or use any kind of tobacco product while representing as a contestant or Queen, keeping in mind that the Queen represents the Harrison County Popcorn Festival for an entire year until her predecessor is crowned in the upcoming year.

Responsible, appropriate, and professional appearance (dressy-casual) is expected while the Queen is wearing her crown and sash: (1) Attire that is conducive to the specific appearance or event (i.e. business casual, formal, etc.).

Cell phones should be powered off during meetings and events unless pre-approved for a special reason.

All information submitted on your application for Harrison County Popcorn Festival Queen is to be true and accurate. If the committee is informed or finds evidence by any other means that a contestant’s application is suspected to be false in any way, the committee reserves the right to investigate the information provided. At any point prior to the pageant crowning, it is decided that false information has indeed been reported on a contestant’s application, they will be dismissed from the pageant scoring system, receiving no score and will have no chance of advancing in the competition.

Violation of any rule or regulation of the Harrison County Popcorn Festival Queen contest may result in removal of the contestant. If the violation is not discovered until after the pageant, the contestant will relinquish all awards, gifts and prizes.
