This week's Gospel story is about Jesus' baptism. We hear again about John the Baptist laying the ground work by bring believers to Jesus by baptizing them with water. When Jesus is baptized with water though, something amazing happens. Watch the video to find out what happens.
Why did Jesus get baptized by John the Baptist? (This was ceremonial in part as it is part of the tradition, but it is also so that those around could see that Jesus was now starting His work in God's Kingdom. This showed God's love for His Son and therefore God's love for all of us that follow His Son through our own baptism.) *
What happened when Jesus was baptized? (The heavens were opened and the Holy Spirit, in the form of a dove, descending upon Jesus and God spoke from above saying, "You are my beloved Son, with you I am well pleased.") *
Explain to your children that when we are baptized we are baptized with water (that is made holy through the power of the Holy Spirit) and that we are baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. So, just like Jesus, we are also receiving the Holy Spirit at our baptisms. *
