GCWC Pre-Fire Fuels Reduction Cost-Share Reimbursement Program
The Grand County Wildfire Council (GCWC) is offering private landowners and collective groups of private landowners the opportunity to apply for cost-share funding in an effort to implement recommendations outlined in approved Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs). THIS IS FOR PRE-FIRE MITIGATION WORK.

NEW!!! Projects must be completed within the same calendar year as the date of application. We are no longer pre-approving projects before work is complete. Instead, we will consider applications and projects once WORK HAS BEEN COMPLETED*. This means that you no longer need to wait on us to begin your project.  The only catch is that we are still requiring “pre-mitigation” photos, so, if you intend to submit an application for reimbursement, BE SURE TO TAKE PHOTOS BEFORE WORK BEGINS.

*If you have not completed your project and wish to further inquire about the program (including a potential reimbursement amount), email bewildfireready@gmail.com or call 970-627-7121.

Applications will be accepted on an on-going basis, until available funding has been expended.

ELIGIBLE PROJECTS & REQUIREMENTS:

(1) DEFENSIBLE SPACE (single landowner): Cost-share reimbursement opportunity (up to $1050/acre treated) for homeowners or groups of homeowners to implement defensible space around their homes in wildland urban interface communities. Examples of eligible projects are: removal of common juniper shrubs, tree removal, tree thinning, tree limbing and pruning. (Projects that involve clearing or reducing vegetation around a structure/home.)

(2) LANDSCAPE-SCALE FUELS REDUCTION (group of landowners): Cost-share reimbursement opportunity (up to $1050/acre treated) for groups of private landowners and/or communities to implement landscape-scale fuels reduction projects. Examples include shaded fuel breaks, greenbelt treatments and roadside thinning projects. (Projects that involve clearing or reducing vegetation, focusing on breaking up the continuity of horizontal and vertical fuels.)

Prioritization of Applications
Due to the limited availability of funds compared to the desire for pre-fire fuels reduction, we must prioritize the applications we receive.  Accordingly, this is how we will prioritize applications...

FIRST PRIORITY: Projects that address fuels reduction and creation of 'defensible space' along roads and driveways, utility lines, and within 100 of the existing or proposed home site.

SECOND PRIORITY: Projects that address tree removal on vacant land or removal of trees that are more than 100 feet from home site.

ADDITIONAL PRIORITIES:
Projects located in an Extreme, Very High or High hazard-rated community as identified in an approved Community Wildfire Protection Plan within Grand County will rank higher.

Landscape scale fuels reduction projects should be identified projects in an approved CWPP, or be recognized by the local Fire District as a priority project for wildfire hazard mitigation.

Are you looking to do pre-fire fuels reduction, NOT post-fire recovery/hazard tree removal.
Clear selection
If you answer "no" to the statement above and are looking to do post-fire hazard tree removal, please STOP and use our "Post-Fire Cost Share Program" application.
