The Bight: Spring Ski & Ride

Spring Ski & Ride Adventure Stories

Spring Ski & Ride is the first installment of The Bight – an Adventure Story Series brought to you by Feathered Friends. Join us at Feathered Friends Seattle on Thursday, April 18th at 6:00 PM to get stoked about spring backcountry skiing and riding! We will have around 4-8 people share local adventure stories throughout the night, with a Q&A session following each presentation. The evening will end with a raffle benefiting our partner organization for the night, Cascade Backcountry Alliance. CBA is a local non-profit working to maintain, expand and educate around winter backcountry access in the Cascades and surrounding areas. Learn more here.

Admission is free! Check out the full event details here

🎿 Call for Submissions! 🏂🏿

Do you have a fun ski and ride story to share? Whether it’s an anecdote about a day trip adventure or a month-long mission, we want to hear about how you're enjoying the spring snow! You do not need to be a professional skier or splitboarder to submit a story. We encourage you to fill out an additional submission form if you have multiple stories to tell. Stories do not need to be PNW-focused, though we will likely select more presentations based in the Cascadia region. Presenters will have the option to share for 5, 10, or 15 minutes.

Here are some story examples to get the wheels turning...bringing your kiddo on their first-ever overnight tour, descending a bucket list peak by sticks/plank (e.g. Mt. Adams, Jack Mountain, Bootalicious peak), a traverse long in the making (e.g. Snoqualmie Haute Route, Tatoosh traverse, traverse de-Issaquah Alps), etc.

To say "thank you!" for presenting, speakers will leave with a The Bight: Adventure Stories swag bag.

Please note: Feathered Friends and Cascade Backcountry Alliance will be publishing blog posts featuring the presented stories, and by agreeing to be a presenter, you are consenting to the use of your photos and written words to use for said blog posts. You will be cited as the author for these photos and stories.

Selected presenters will be expected to:

  • Present for their chosen timeframe (5, 10, or 15 minutes) and answer audience questions
  • Provide a map and photo highlights showcasing their adventure (this is not the event to talk about your secret pow stash!)
  • Submit presentation slides by April 11th
  • Be at Feathered Friends Seattle on April 18th, prepared to present
  • Hang out afterwards to chat with folks about your presentation
Important Dates:

  • 4/1 Form closes to submissions
  • 4/5 Final presenters will be notified
  • 4/11 Presentation slides due
  • 4/18 Present at The Bight: Spring Ski & Ride

Short "elevator" pitch. Why do you want to share this story with the community?

This could be a variety of reasons – close team experience, new/novel route or big goal achieved, adventure that introduces people to new areas, amateur-friendly overnight, your path to finding sasquatch, etc.

Around 5-10 high-resolution photos will give us a good idea. Because this is a slideshow presentation, photos are an important factor in this style of storytelling.
