Students accepted into the program will benefit from:

  • College 101 Conference: On October 15-16, the conference will focus on the essential information students need to apply to college. Experts will provide guidance on finding scholarships and other sources of funding, what to look for in selecting a college, a review of the college application process, and career advise from working professionals. Admissions officers from local colleges and universities will be on hand to advice about admission requirements.
  • Mentoring Program: monthly mentoring where students will receive guidance from a college student or a professional in academics and the college application process.
  • USJ Scholarship Opportunity (for USJ seniors only): Every year USJ awards scholarship money to selected seniors who have attended USJ events, embody USJ’s spirit, and apply for the scholarship.
  • A support network: Our group of students will find a sense of family in our programs through the individualized attention and guidance they will receive from the board members, the facilitators, their mentors, and their peers. Many of our students have called USJ a “familia” or family because we also create recreational/community activities for our students to bond (soccer tournament and team building activities), we follow-up on the students’ progress, and we provide students with additional scholarship, program, and internship information.

Students accepted into the program are expected to:

  • Be in 11th or 12th grade in any high school and submit the enclosed application. Sophomores and freshmen will be accepted as well, but please keep in mind our program is designed for juniors and seniors.
  • Commit to attend and actively participate in the conference, monthly mentoring sessions, and soccer tournament.
  • Be responsive to our emails and evite requests for USJ events and to communication from mentors.
  • Provide their own transportation to events when those are in person. Please note most mentoring sessions will be held online through zoom.
  • Turn on screens during zoom sessions.
