Scholarship for Global First Year Seminar in Japan Fall 2023: Academic Reference Form
Under a grant from the US Department of Education,  UMF is offering members of its incoming Class of 2027 a scholarship to participate in the new Global First Year Seminar. Students admitted into this program will travel with their instructor to Japan in August 2023 to begin their First Year Seminar. The scholarship offsets the  travel costs.

A student applying for this scholarship has asked that you complete an academic reference on their behalf. Please respond to the following questions regarding their the academic ability and their suitability for participation in this UMF Global Experience program. As this is a competitive scholarship, we appreciate any additional comments you may have about the merits of this student, the benefits they are likely to gain from the program, and any other information that may assist the UMF Global Education Council in evaluating their application. ALL REFERENCES ARE CONFIDENTIAL. They will only be shared with members of the GEC.

Scholarship applications will be evaluated upon receipt and awarded on a rolling basis. We will begin reviewing  MARCH 1, 2023. All applications and reference forms must be received no later than FRIDAY, MARCH 17, 2023.

If you have any questions about the scholarship program, please contact us at UMFGlobalEd@maine.edu.
