This project was created so that I could get a better understanding of the people within my community while also speaking out against the book bans that are currently happening in my city as well as the country.
Chattanooga has always been the only place I've called home and it's always been a big part of who I am.
That being said I always wanted more.
I wanted to know more about myself, my city, Black people, Queer people. Southern people, Americans, or anything that I could get my hands on.
As a kid without internet at home, that would spend Saturdays in the public library for hours learning more, I'm not just sad at the prospect of another kid not having the save opportunity as I did, but I'm angry.
This project is dedicated to my grandmother, a public school teacher in Nashville for over 30 years and giver of books, laughter, and love, Olivia Pope Blackman.
