Dear Parents of Juniors and Seniors:

The “No Child Left Behind Act of 2011” (section 9528 of the Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)) requires schools to provide student contact information to military recruiters.  The contact information that is required by this act includes what is referred to as Student Directory Information and includes student’s name, address, and home telephone number.  

To be in compliance with the law, all three items of directory information (name, address, and phone number) must be release to any military recruiters or agent of higher education who requests it.  At this point in time, this requirement concerns those students currently enrolled in the Senior class (2023) and the Junior class  (2024).
There is a provision within this law which allows this school not to provide directory information.  You, as a parent, may request to opt out of this disclosure requirement by signing the statement below, and returning it to Santiam Christian by September 10, 2022.  We will keep the statement on file, and will not disclose your student’s name, address or phone number to military recruiters or to the public without your authorization.
Please note, by “the public” we do not mean the regular Student Directory provided on RenWeb/Facts for the benefit of the Santiam Christian family, but we mean military and college recruiters.  We will still release information to any party that you request information to be released to, but will not release information without your authorization.  

If you choose not to sign this statement then, by law, Santiam Christian must release your student’s directory information (name, address, and telephone number) to military recruiters and to the public (e.g., other institutions of higher education).
