PATH, Inc. Confidentiality Policy
It is the policy of PATH: Preserving, Archiving & Teaching Hiphop, Inc. (hereafter PATH, Inc.) that board members, staff, volunteers, contractors, vendors, and employees of PATH, Inc. will not disclose confidential or proprietary information belonging to or obtained through their affiliation with PATH, Inc. to any person, including their relatives, friends, and/or business and professional associates, unless PATH, Inc. has authorized disclosure. This policy is not intended to prevent disclosure where disclosure is required by law or disclosure is necessary to advance the program or project.
Board members, volunteers, contractors, vendors, and employees are cautioned to demonstrate professionalism, good judgment, and care to avoid unauthorized or inadvertent disclosures of confidential or proprietary information. Care shall also be taken to ensure that unauthorized individuals do not overhear any discussion of confidential or proprietary information and that documents containing confidential or proprietary information are not left in the open or inadvertently shared.
Upon separation of service/employment and at the end of a term of service, s/he shall return all documents, papers, digital content, and other materials that may contain confidential or proprietary information. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in discipline, up to and including separation of employment or service with PATH, Inc. or legal action.
Before you begin your assignment with PATH, Inc., you should be aware of the laws and penalties for breaching confidentiality. Although the agency is liable for your acts within the scope of your duty, giving information to an unauthorized person could result in the agency's refusal to support you in the event of legal action. Violation of the state statutes regarding confidentiality of records is punishable upon conviction by fines or by imprisonment or by both.
