Fall 2019:  A Developmental and Family-focused Approach to the Management of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome ENROLLMENT
Enrollment form for the online course:
"A Developmental and Family-focused Approach to Management of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome".

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This course provides evidence-based, comprehensive instruction in the therapeutic management of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS).  Participants will learn to identify the risk factors and symptoms associated with NAS and to select appropriate outcome measures and interventions for infants with NAS while considering a family-focused approach.  Course participants will have the opportunity to collaborate in small groups with one another using discussion and instructional activities designed to facilitate both learning and knowledge application.
The course is limited to (30) participants.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1.  Conceptualize how the rate and prevalence of drug dependent newborns in the United States impacts health care systems.
2.  Develop a comprehensive approach for therapeutic examination and assessment of infants with NAS.
3.  Consider the impact of drug replacement therapy on the infant’s development.
4.  Identify specific evaluation tools and outcome measures across the domains of the International Classification of
Functioning which may assist with classification, clinical decision-making and intervention for infants with NAS.
5.  Construct an intervention plan that comprehensively addresses the infant’s overall development integrating common family-focused considerations.

EXAMPLES OF KNOWLEDGE APPLICATION:
*  Influence on clinical decisions:  Provide a framework for clinical decisions from the point of diagnosis and throughout the infant/child’s clinical course.
*  Practical implementation (logistical requirements, monitoring impact on clinical practice, monitoring impact on client/patient):  Individuals and organizations may develop a “toolkit” of tests/measures for this patient population from diagnosis through the infant/child’s clinical course that incorporates outcome measures across the International Classification of Functioning.
*  Policies/procedures:  Individuals/organizations are encouraged to develop a comprehensive and standardized approach for therapy examination and developmental and family-focused intervention for infants with NAS.
