Presidential Honors Scholarship (PHS) Application

The Presidential Honors Scholarship is available for students who exhibit excellent academic motivation and is designed to assist students with books and other educational expenses such as non-mandatory fees. Recipients of the scholarship will join the Honors College at Cleveland State. Click on this link for more information regarding the Honors College at CSCC.

Applicants must have at least a 3.5 high school GPA, complete the essay responses below, submit a letter of recommendation, and take part in a short interview upon application to the Honors College as well.

Scholarship recipients will be selected from students who:
* Submit a fully completed supplemental application for the Presidential Honors Scholarship. This includes submitting a letter of recommendation that speaks to their leadership qualities, work ethic, and/or academic motivation/future goals. This letter should be on official letterhead and written by an instructor, teacher, employer, or someone from an organization where the student volunteers. The letter can be submitted in one of two ways:

mailed to Cleveland State Community College c/o Sara Amato, 3535 Adkisson Drive, Cleveland, TN 37320,
or the official letter can be scanned and emailed from the professional's email to samato @clevelandstatecc.edu.

* Commit to joining the Honors College, enrolling in at least 12 credit hours, including at least one Honors course per semester. Students can receive this scholarship for a maximum of 4 semesters.

*Maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA to renew the scholarship each semester.

Membership in the Honors College is a requirement of the scholarship. The Honors College carries specific course requirements that will supplement the requirements of your major.

This application requires a letter of recommendation. This letter may come from a current or former teacher, a coach, an employer, or anyone else (outside of your family) who can speak to your educational goals and work ethic. If you’re able, you may upload the letter of recommendation here. Otherwise, please send the letter to the Director of our Honors College, Prof. Sara Amato (samato@clevelandstatecc.edu). If you submitted a letter of recommendation with your Honors College application, you're welcome to use the same one again here.

Scoring of the application: Scoring will be completed using this holistic rubric.
