Puente de Hózhó (PdH) Language Academy is an innovative language program that promotes bilingualism through the study of either Spanish/English or Navajo/English for students in 6-8 grade at Sinagua Middle School. Please look at the options below to see which program is best for your child.
For first time students:

Admission into Puente de Hózhó Language Academy is based on the following:

Continuing students in the Advanced Language Placement will need the following:

❖ Academic excellence and attendance – Overall standards-based understanding of 2.5

❖ Intent to return form turned in

Accepted students will be approved for open enrollment (provided space available) and do not need to complete a boundary exception form. In addition to this application, parents need to complete a school registration packet.


The mission of our Language Academy is to provide every student the opportunity to extend their knowledge of two languages. Students applying for the Academy will have three options:
Option 1 (Spanish/ English) is for students who have a background in dual literacy. Continuing students will take the following content classes in Spanish: Spanish Immersion, Science and/ or Mathematics. This program is typically made up from students from our partner school, Puente de Hózhó Elementary.

Option 2 (Spanish/ English) is for students with a basic understanding of Spanish who would like Spanish Immersion but need more time before they are ready for content classes taught in Spanish. Students in this track will have the opportunity to be assessed during their first year to see if they can qualify for content lessons being taught in Spanish.

Option 3 (Navajo) is for students who want  Navajo Language Acquisition and Culture class. All other subject areas are taught in English. This is available for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students.
