INTRODUCTION: Who are some of the shepherds of the Catholic Church? If you answered the Pope, our pastor and other priests or deacons, you would be correct! Do you know who is the pastor of Our Lady of Grace Church? If you answered Father Bill Smith, you get a star!! Jesus calls himself the Good Shepherd because he cares for his followers like a shepherd cares for his sheep. Parishes, like Our Lady of Grace, have pastors. The pastor is a priest who leads and cares for the people in his parish, much like a shepherd cares for his sheep. Take a minute to turn to page 4 in your Good News Weekly and read the two Catholic Faith Words: "parish" and "pastor." When you are done, take a look at the diagram below to read more about the "Shepherds of the Catholic Church" and then answer the questions below.

Great job! As we reflect this Sunday on Jesus, the Good Shepherd, it is also good to reflect on our call to imitate the Good Shepherd. We might think first of Good Shepherds as individuals, like the Pope, bishops and priests, who are joined to Jesus through Holy Orders. They are called to shepherd people with the heart of Jesus, to know people, to lead them, to feed them, to love them. You might also think of your parents and their role as a Good Shepherd in guiding you, feeding you, loving you and taking care of you. However, in reality, and by virtue of Baptism, every Christian is called to be Good Shepherds right where we live: in the family, at school, with friends or in the community. There are many opportunities to be “good shepherds” in society, through works of mercy, love, compassion and sharing the Good News of Jesus.
