As part of this year's Womxn in Windows exhibit we are offering our first ever workshop, Womxn for Womxn that hopes to encourage building bonds between womxn. This workshop not only tackles the personal, ideological and structural obstacles that often get in the way of connecting with other womxn but offers strategies of how we can better connect with one another. Through practicing a set of interviewing skills designed to create greater empathy, promote deeper listening and challenge stereotypes, participants will learn how to foster deeper connections with other womxn in their lives.

There is nothing quite like the connection and support gained from healthy relationships between womxn. When womxn really see, support and connect with one another, it is a powerful force that sends ripple effects into homes, relationships and communities for generations. Yet, we live in a society that not only devalues real connection but encourages and rewards conflict between womxn. We are taught to compete and compare ourselves to other womxn rather than collaborate. We are fed the illusion that there is only one way to be a “good womxn” and we’re rewarded when we hold other womxn to dehumanizing standards of womxnhood .  We too often fail to see and treat each other as full human beings that have thoughts, feelings, histories and voices that are important, that are valuable and that shape who we are.

What do you hope to walk away with from this workshop?
Womxn in Windows is a platform for the perspectives of womxn on culture, identity and society. Centered around the idea that individual differences advance societal strength, the platform believes that learning from one another’s cultures and experiences contributes towards a transformative humanity of equality, freedom and respect. By providing a forum for diverse and underrepresented voices and their stories, Womxn in Windows aims to create cultures of co-existence and networks of solidarity. We continue to develop programming and ways of engaging that furthers these ideals through digital media and in person events.
