Gruppe A: I have no academic experience with the German language outside of the current school year’s course; I have no additional, significant exposure to the language through family, community or other enrichment opportunities; I have not spent more than 3 weeks in a German-speaking country at any time since January 1st, 2018.

Gruppe B: I have 1-4 academic years of study of German in classroom settings; I have no additional, significant exposure to the language through family, community or other enrichment opportunities; I have not spent more than 3 weeks in a German-speaking country at any time since January 1st, 2018.

Gruppe C/D: I have additional experience beyond the day school/credit program classroom via Sprachschule, school exchanges, study-abroad programs, and/or travel in German-speaking countries, OR I have considerable exposure to German because of extensive contact with German-speaking family and community members.

1. While teachers of participating students will ensure that applications are completed accurately and that students are placed in the appropriate category, the ultimate responsibility lies with the student participants and their families to provide accurate information.

2. The Committee reserves the right to request clarification of information provided from student participants, and the right to disqualify students if such information is found to be inaccurate. The Contest Chair, in consultation with the Committee, shall have the final decision regarding such matters. In order to avoid disqualification of candidates, teachers are encouraged to investigate the degree of benefit students have derived from any additional exposure they have had to the language. This includes visits with relatives and any other travel or exchange programs. Teachers are encouraged to make contact with the student’s home in order to ascertain the degree of language exposure if they are unsure. Please note that having a parent who teaches German or speaks German does not necessarily mean they must participate in Gruppe C/D as the amount of exposure to the language may vary greatly.

3. Should questions about student eligibility arise, students, parent/guardians, and/or teachers should contact the Committee by email at annepopovich58@gmail.com.

4. Prizes that are awarded are the property of the respective participants to whom they are awarded. Winners will receive their prizes in the form of a cheque.

5. There is no entry fee for this year's contest.

6. The videos and materials submitted as part of the contest entry become the property of the Ontario High School German Contest. The organization will not sell or profit from any of the materials.
