Summer 2024 MJF Fellowship Agency Application
Applications are due by Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

Please note that a contribution to MJF to help support this program is not required and will not be a factor in the selection process. A financial factor that will be considered in the selection process is the pay rate for your other law clerks. If you have other paid clerks, and they receive a higher pay rate than $15.62 an hour, our expectation is that you will contribute additional dollars to the MJF summer fellow's compensation to equalize the pay rate.

Another new factor that will be considered this year when reviewing applications is unique ideas for how the fellow could be involved in projects related to developing opportunities for additional students to engage with the organization (as volunteers, externs, or future fellows).

Please verify internally before applying that your organization will be able to put the student on your payroll using the funds provided by MJF to pay the student.

Please contact Anna Beadle (anna@mnjustice.org) with any questions regarding the application process.

Donations to the Summer Fellowship Program
MJF invites host agencies to make a donation to contribute to the Summer Fellowship Program. Donations may be used by MJF to underwrite its expenses associated with the Program, including those associated with stipends, trainings, and coordination of the SFP application and interview process. While donations of any amount will be helpful, MJF asks agencies that are selected to host a fellow to consider contributing a minimum amount of $500 to the program. Donations are voluntary and will not affect whether your agency is chosen as a fellowship site.

Please write a 150-400 word description of what the fellowship at your agency will entail. This will be used as a job description in the postings on Symplicity that MJF will make available to prospective student applicants. It should include enough information to help students understand if they want to apply and should address the types of work the student will do and skills that the student will develop.  *
Please provide any additional information that you believe MJF should be aware of when selecting host agencies for its 2024 summer fellows. This could include, for example, information about how the pandemic has impacted the need for your services, recent staffing or funding changes at your organization, or how a summer fellow would make a difference in your program.
Are there opportunities for a fellow to participate in projects that would help develop opportunities for additional students to engage with the organization (as volunteers, externs, or future fellows)? Please give at least one example of how a fellow could help future students engage with the organization's work.
*
How will you involve an MJF Fellow in your organization's initiatives to promote access, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging? *
Students may be able to secure funding through other avenues such as the MJF student chapters Public Interest Clerkship and Public Interest Law Fellowship. If you do not receive funding through MJF's Summer Fellowship Program, would you like us to share information about your organization with students who may be applying for funding from other sources? *

How are your other law clerks funded?
What is your typical hourly pay rate for law clerks? *
Rather than reducing the number of hours an MJF Fellow works, or paying them less than other law clerks, if your other law clerks are funded at a higher amount than what is provided by MJF, will you contribute the amount needed to equalize the pay across the students? (MJF summer fellows must be paid a minimum of $15.63/hour gross using the funds provided by MJF).
