Agreement to Publish Student Information on South Portland School Department Online Platforms for the 2020-2021 School Year
South Portland School Department (SPSD) staff maintain official websites and sponsored
social and educational media to provide general information about the school system as well as information about educational programs, extracurricular activities, school events, classroom activities, and student and staff achievements.

Maine law requires public schools to obtain written approval from parents/guardians prior to publishing personal information about students on the Internet. This form will authorize SPSD staff to publish the following:

A. Full names of students in connection with class rosters, honor rolls, awards received, and team/extracurricular activity participant lists.

B. Group and/or individual photographs of students.

C. Individual student or class work may be published on SPSD websites, school-sponsored
social and educational media, and/or classroom websites in accordance with established
guidelines. Such work may include creative writing, research projects, artwork, music
performances, and videos. South Portland Board of Education Policies are available at
http://www.spsd.org/board/policy-book and the Superintendent’s office.

OUTSIDE MEDIA

On occasion, SPSD allows media outlets such as local newspapers, radio stations and television stations to visit the school to report on school programs and activities.  You have the right to deny permission for your child’s name, picture, voice or statements to be used by outside media.  However, please note that permission is not required for events open to the public such as athletic events, concerts, performances and graduation ceremonies.

Please complete and return this form by September 20th, 2020.  As you may wish to answer differently for each of your children, please complete one form per child. This agreement will remain in effect for the entire 2020-2021 school year unless it is rescinded in writing.  If the form is not returned, no information about your child will be published on the School Department website. If you have any questions, please contact your school principal.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords parents and students over 18 years of age certain rights with respect to the student's education records. More information on FERPA and how SPSD safeguards student privacy is available at https://www.spsd.org/district/infotech/privacy
