Enrollment Procedures
Who: All Children who are 4 years old on or before June 30, 2024.
How: All applications will be stamped with the date they are received in the Office of Elementary Education. This date will be used to place children in preschool on a first come, first serve basis.
· Applicants requesting school based settings will adhere to all county policies for attendance zones.
· All out-of-county applicants will adhere to WV Code.
· All children identified as eligible for the preschool program for children with developmental delays will be placed as required by law.
· As it is considered best practice for young children to spend their day with a consistent environment, families requiring before or after school care will have priority when selecting child care settings. To support this continuity of services, the number of settings in which a child receives education and services will be minimized per WV Policy 2525.
When: In late January through April 2024, all timely applicants will be scheduled for an appointment at one of the Jackson County Developmental Registration Clinics to be held by agencies serving young children in Jackson County.
**At the time of actual enrollment, parents MUST present evidence of:
· an up-to-date shot record
· a birth certificate from the Department of Vital Statistics in the state where the child was born (hospital or county birth certificates are not accepted)
· a current WV Health Check form from the child’s heath care provider
· verification of a dental exam within the last 12 months
· proof of income for Head Start eligibility (SNAP, SSI Eligibility, Foster Care placement, TANF)
· proof of residence
**WVBE Policy 2525 §126-28-5.1 states, “enrollment in an approved participating WV program is voluntary; however, once the child is enrolled, attendance must follow W.Va. Code §18-8-1.” Faithful attendance is a requirement for continued enrollment.
**A letter will be mailed to families prior to the end of the school year notifying each family where their child will attend. This will be considered the child’s final preschool placement unless the family promptly notifies the Director in the Office of Elementary Education at the Jackson County Board of Education.
