GOVERNMENT PROGRAM
We will work at the Federal level to support meaningful legislation and educate others about opportunities for action. At the State level, we will work on the rules to implement the governor’s Executive Order 20-04 as well as to help develop and support legislation. We will continue to work with the governor’s office and support action to improve recycling.

At the county we will monitor County Commission meetings and engage with County Administrators and Commissioners. We want to work at the city level to develop the Ashland Climate Action Project. We want to help actualize the Ashland Climate and Energy Action Plan, educate residents to reduce consumption and support the Climate Change Outreach Commission, publish a bi-weekly column in the Ashland Daily Tidings, develop community engagement and work to adapt to the ‘new normal.’ We want to expand climate action to other cities. This may include engaging other cities to talk about climate & energy action, promote development & implementation of Climate and Energy Action Plans, reach out to City Councilors to find out who is knowledgeable and who is potentially sympathetic, promote more dialog among city councils on climate related ideas and alert SOCAN activists in cities when there is going to be council discussions on items related to climate change.

EDUCATION PROGRAM
This group will continue making presentations to interested groups as well as schools once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. The Master Climate Protector will be offered via Zoom and the area of teacher education will be developed. Teachers will be asked to help with the development of grants and preparation for workshops and professional development. Additionally, a team of educators will be identified to help with planning of professional development opportunities.

The Oregon Legislative and Congressional District project will be updated and additional congressional district summaries will be developed. Internship opportunities will be developed and the work of the Rapid Response team will be ongoing.

NATURAL RESOURCES PROGRAM
Forests and fire will be an important focus with attention to addressing climate change driven wildfires. Actions to help educate people as well as attention to the area of how to build back better. Bilingual materials will be developed and disseminated regarding fire. Conversations and programs that help increase the public’s understanding of prevention and protection will be undertaken.

Work will continue with others to incorporate climate smart strategies into forest management plans to promote healthy resilient forests. Drought education materials and ways to conserve water will be made available and collaborative efforts to develop Offshore wind will be supported.

HEALTH AND PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACTS
This group will continue to offer monthly Sustaining Climate Activists sessions to address the fatigue, distress and grief for those engaged in climate action.

TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM
The development of passenger rail will be explored and the annual transit equity program, supported by national efforts, will be continued.

PUBLIC OUTREACH PROGRAM
This group will continue monthly meetings, development of additional Climate Capsules, Media Corps and expand our use of social media. The Info cards will continue to be distributed and efforts will be made to Broaden the base by reaching out to others with whom we do not normally engage. Identifying their needs and common ground to help identify what they need from us.
