Swimming lessons for students entering grades K-8 will be offered at Klaas-Jonas Community Pool in Ellsworth. The fee is $40 per student. ($30 lesson fee and $10 transport fee)

Week 1: July 1-3 (10:15-11 a.m.)
Week 2: July 8-12 (10:15-11 a.m.)

The Klaas-Jonas Community Pool (KJP) is a community pool that is operated through the Ellsworth School District. The facility is a Red Cross Learn to Swim Member with Red Cross Certified Lifeguards.

TIMING -
9:15 a.m. - bus will depart Pepin Area Schools (elementary doors)
11:45 a.m.- noon - bus will return to Pepin Area Schools

Times may be adjusted slightly after the first day - this will be communicated.

Students should wear swimsuits to and from the pool. (Locker rooms will be available if needed.)
The bus will have an two adult supervisors present and bus rules will be enforced.

Leveled Swimming Lesson Options

Level 1: Water Exploration: This is recommended as the first class in the swim program. Students are introduced to basic swimming and water safety skills which they will build on as they progress through the American Red Cross "Learn to Swim Program." This is a beginner course and swimmers will use instructors assistance as necessary.

Level 2: Primary skills: Students entering this course must have a Level 1 certificate or be able to demonstrate all of the completion requirements of Level 1. Skills presented in Level 1 will be improved upon and combined for swimming independently over short distances. Swimmers in this level should be out of kindergarten, this is to prevent advancing to quickly through the levels and resulting in an individual being is water that is too deep or in a class that is to advanced for their age.

Level 3: Stroke Readiness: Students must have a Level 2 certificate or be able to demonstrate all of the completion requirements in Level 2. Students begin to coordinate front and back crawl and are introduced to the elementary backstroke. They will be swimming independently in the shallow end.

Level 4: Stroke Development: Students must have a Level 3 certificate or be able to demonstrate all of the completion requirements in Level 3. This level is held entirely in the deep end, so swimmers must have the strength and endurance to sustain each stroke without touching. Students improve and develop confidence in the strokes and skills learned in Level 2 and 3. Breast stroke and sidestroke are introduced. Students begin to increase their endurance and classes will be held in deep water.

Level 5: Skill Proficiency: Students must have a Level 4 certificate or be able to demonstrate all of the completion requirements in Level 4. Students work on strokes so that they can swim them with more ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness over greater distances.

Level 6: Students must have a Level 5 certificate or be able to demonstrate all of the completion requirements in Level 5. Students work on strokes, endurance and are introduced to lifeguard readiness techniques.
