Spring 2021 Rhetoric and Writing Research Support Request
As you know, MSU has suspended professional travel. Faculty and graduate students will not have access to travel funds this academic year. Limited research funds are available. Because of this university policy and because of the budget strain that the global pandemic has placed on the university, the college, and our department, we are adopting a different approach for allocating graduate student research funds this year.

This completed application is REQUIRED in order for you to receive ANY departmental research funding for spring semester 2021 (through to May 15, 2021).

If you do not complete an application by 5pm eastern on Friday, January 29, you will not be eligible to receive research funding during spring semester. This requires you to plan proactively for  what research support you may need this semester. Please do so, and please also refer to the notes and slides from our Friday, September 18 RW workshop on travel and research funding.

The Rhetoric and Writing Graduate Advisory Committee (RWGAC) will review all applications, with names removed, and rank the requests. We will fund as many requests as we can, based on rank.

The criteria we will use to evaluate the requests includes the following:
1. How critical is the research to the applicant’s timely completion of their degree?
2. How close to a key research and/or program milestone is the applicant?
3. How will the funding contribute to the applicant’s marketability upon degree completion?
4. Has the applicant indicated that they are also seeking funding from other sources (e.g., College, Graduate School; discussed at the September 18 program workshop)?

RWGAC will review applications on Friday, February 5 and you will receive a response by Monday, February 8. If you have any questions about this form or about access to research support or if you have more immediate needs, please email Dànielle (devossda@msu.edu).

Please complete the form by 5pm eastern on Friday, February 5.
