Course Description:
Part 1: Mindfulness and CoRegulation in the Classroom. Virtual Tea Project Course, Fall Semester, annually. Synchronous weekly virtual class meetings support an immersive experience with a cohort of educators. An immersion in first developing one’s own personal mindfulness practice acts as an avenue to offer the Tea Project mindfulness SEL (Social Emotional Learning) Curriculum to one’s students. We explore he innate intelligence of plants and humans by developing a relationship to our sensory experience of mindful tea drinking with different herbs. We identify fall plants, harvest and dry herbs in our classrooms for use in our tea corner and daily mindful tea practice. Our main text is Braiding Sweetgrass, by Robin Wall Kimmerer. A deeper dive into the growth cycle method of organization for teaching throughout the lesson, the day, the week and the school year is focused on as a semester long study. We access research to prove that mindfulness in schools enhances learning capacity, focus and attention, as well as individually develop a mini-unit with access to herbal research we utilize in our exploration of native plants to our growing zone.
Mindfulness and CoRegulation in the Classroom is available to educators in any US state. One-on-one mentoring relationships with the teacher provide a consulting framework within which one’s custom school garden and curriculum are birthed. 3 graduate credits are available through Castleton University.
