Dear artists,

If you are about to fill in the submission form for your proposal, it means that you have read and studied in depth the guidelines and conditions that define our invitation to participate in Altofest; it means that you share its principles of independence and autonomy, political responsibility and poetic direction, which underlie the project and are set out in its very structure.

HOW THE SELECTION PROCESS WORKS

A composition process derived from the careful observation of each proposal received, the aesthetic elements that compose it and the poetics that generated it. We attempt to exercise a gaze that does not dominate but welcomes the interrogative power of the individual proposals, as this is translated into the signs that recur in each one, allowing a composition of works to emerge that form the body of the question.

A question that imposes itself on our gaze, overcoming the distances and differences that distinguish the artists who respond to our call.

We then summarise this question in the dramaturgy that we complete by combining the chosen works with the residents who welcome the artists into the heart of their daily lives.

Finally, we hand over to this emerging community the task of cohabiting in the space of risk, a neutral and uncomfortable zone, which becomes the site of an unprecedented and shared language, which forms the basis of the dialogue between the inhabitants of the community of the 'hovering city' of Altofest, built on the principle of poetic citizenship.

You will forgive us if we use this form, a sterile tool, to collect your proposals, but please consider it a neutral place that allows us to approach your work according to the information you wish to give us.

We would like to be sure that we will be able to communicate to you who are about to write to us the place and the experience that await you and that we are preparing with the utmost care, together with the resident citizens of Naples who will welcome you.

Altofest is a systemic live performance by Teatringestazione, extended in time and space, shared in the form of a festival with a heterogeneous collectivity, made up of artists, citizens and residents, researchers, scholars and workers in the cultural sphere, conscious and occasional spectators. Teatringestazione composes the dramaturgy of Altofest by combining the proposals received through the call for proposals with the domestic spaces and its inhabitants, giving rise to a collective action spread across different parts of the city.

We invite all of you artists to dialogue and confrontation. The residency and programme days are a public and collective opportunity to question the distinctive poetics and aesthetics that define your artistic identities.

For this reason, in choosing the proposals to send us, we invite you to be independent of the thought of the easy adaptability of the work. On the contrary, the opportunity offered by Altofest is precisely that of being able to rework its structure, investigating its essence and direction, and finding itself in a new form compromised by the specificity of the place that hosts it and by the dwelling dynamics that define it and the lives that pass through it.

The result is a rewriting of the work generated by the proximity and mutual care between the host and the artist. The artist's creative urgency intertwines with his host's everyday life.

The following module is considered the first step towards a mutual acquaintance; an invitation to meet in a common area of risk to build together a place for reflection and critique, a multicultural, international appointment that contributes to rethinking the role of contemporary art in society.
