A Just Harvest Apprenticeship Application
The A Just Harvest apprenticeship program provides employment opportunities and workplace skills training for Rogers Park area residents who have been justice-involved or face other barriers to employment.  Apprentices will be placed in one of A Just Harvest's urban agriculture, community kitchen or community engagement programs. In the program, apprentices gain valuable hands on experience from program leaders while having the support of a case manager for basic human and family needs.  In addition, apprentices will attend regular trainings and workshops to learn general workforce and life skills. The starting rate is $15.80 per hour for 30 hours per week, including trainings. Employer paid health insurance is included. 

Apprentices will be placed in one of the following programs:
 
Urban Agriculture (5 positions) -  The program aims to create and nurture collective healing through cultivating plants.  Apprentices will develop and maintain green spaces, provide mentorship to children in afterschool and summer programs, and grow food for the community.   Extensive manual labor is a required.  Work is dirty and is performed in all weather conditions including hot, cold, and wet days.
 
Community Kitchen (3 positions) - The program aims to directly address the food and nutritional needs of the community. Apprentices will fill one of the following roles: kitchen sanitation, veteran outreach or support the food pantry.
 
Community Engagement (3 positions) -  The program aims to deepen relationships and build community by giving residents space to develop the power to improve their lives and the community.  Apprentice will organize community building events and support local entrepreneurship in order to spur community and economic development.
