James F. Doughty School: Confirmation of Requested Return to School Options
James F. Doughty School: Confirmation of Requested Return to School Options

The purpose of this form is for JFDS families to CONFIRM your choice of return-to-school options for your Doughty student(s), information that is critical to finalizing our reopening and is requested no later than Thursday, August 13th.

The July 31 "Green" designation for our county allows all schools including JFDS to move ahead with plans for students to return to in-person school attendance (full time / 5 days per week or "hybrid" / 2 days per week) provided that CDC safety and prevention measures are in place. A fully remote option (no in-person attendance) also remains.

Key highlights of our safe return plan for when students attend school in-person, which reflect the core elements of CDC prevention and safety measures:

* Separate entries designated by class to allow for distancing.

* Requirement of masks for all students and staff throughout the school day and "mask breaks."

* Hand-washing upon arrival and frequently throughout the school day.

* Course scheduling for in-person students aimed at reducing the total number of transitions during the day / reducing the number of students in a classroom at a given time.

* CDC distancing guidelines observed in all classroom spaces.

* A combination of single direction foot traffic, staggered releases, and between-class sanitation of spaces to reduce contact and contamination.

* Elimination of locker and cafeteria use, including lunches brought to classrooms.

A description of the three return options, which are also repeated in the form questions. Students returning full time will be in the building five days per week. Students returning on the hybrid plan will be in school two days per week. Students requesting the remote option will not attend school in-person:

Full-Time:  The student will attend school in-person five days a week on the normal school schedule. This is the option that is closest to a normal school return.

Hybrid Part-Time:  The student will attend school 2 days per week and work remotely from home on other days. In this option, students attend on alternating days (for example, attend JFDS on Monday and Wednesday, work from home on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday).  Students are still required to meet the full expectations in their courses and will complete work at home on days they don’t attend in person.

Fully Remote:  The student will not attend James F. Doughty School in person and will do all of their work from home through a combination of virtual contact with a teacher and completion of work as assigned through a learning management system, including Google Classroom.

Thank you for completing and submitting this form as soon as you are able. We will be sharing more specific information in various forms now that schools have been cleared to move ahead with return plans.
