In Summer 2020 City of York Council substantially extended a pedestrian zone in the centre of York, banning Blue Badge Holders from 10.30am - 8pm. In November 2021 a decision was taken to extend these measures, meaning that the disabled people can no longer access services, community centres, post offices, shops, dentists, opticians, banks, City Screen, churches, restaurants and markets.
We believe that by taking these decisions, City of York Council has unlawfully discriminated against disabled people, and we want to send a message that this is not acceptable.
