About the Project
Millions of people from all over the world have attended and supported Pride over the years, yet the significance of Toronto Pride to social development in Canada has never been seen in its historical to present-day context.

Through Magenta's pilot program and using The ArQuives: Canada's LGBTQ2+ Archiveone of the largest LGBTQ2+ archives in the world and the only LGBTQ2+ archive in Canada with a national scopewe are producing a comprehensive research project, exhibition, and catalogue focused on Toronto Pride from 1970 to present.

This will be the first ever Toronto Pride exhibition and publication seen in this context, and presented to a national audience. Our exhibition and catalogue launch will be the closing event of the esteemed Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival and coincide with the 50th anniversary of The ArQuives in June 2023.

This will be the FIRST EVER Toronto Pride Exhibition and Publication shared with a national and global audience. The significance of Toronto Pride to social development in Canada has never been seen in its historical context.

With multiple proposed exhibition locations throughout Toronto, including outdoor and digital complementary programming, this exhibition and global publication will feature enlarged archival photographs, print media, and ephemera carefully selected and presented from the archive and the public.
