Public Comment Portal: SBE Administrative Rule on the Arrangement of Official Ballots
In accordance with G.S. § 150B-20 and 08 NCAC 15 .0101, Joshua Lawson, a registered voter and resident of Wake County, submitted a rulemaking petition to the State Board of Elections on March 26, 2021. The petition requested that the State Board engage in rulemaking to amend the rule regarding ballot the arrangement of official ballots to include the word “Nominee” after the candidate’s name and party designation, and to include “Unaffiliated Candidate” after the candidate’s name when a candidate qualifies by petition to run unaffiliated.  Separate from the rulemaking petition, the State Board is proposing several other changes to simplify the rule and to clarify the order of offices to be listed on the ballot in accordance with G.S. § 163-165.6.

Public comment on the proposed rule will be accepted from Tuesday, June 15, 2021, through Monday, August 16, 2021.
