This Civic Assembly (CA) (based off of a type of democratic initiative called a
Citizen's Assembly) is a group of community members who will come together to provide a set of recommendations, options, or a collective decision. Council Member Hanif's Office, will be using a CA to deliberate on Participatory Budgeting project ideas and decide which ideas will go on the ballot. Essentially, they will act as a jury of community members and review all the submitted and developed projects. In order to have this group be representative of District 39, we are asking for nominations of community members to serve on the assembly. The participants will then be selected through a lottery that is stratified by demographic information (age, race, gender) to ensure random and representative participation.
All nominated people will receive an invitation to participate, and will be asked to respond to that invitation and share their own demographic information if they would like to be considered for the lottery! No one you nominate will be added to our email list.
Please nominate up to 4 people who are representative of your community. Our goal is to engage participants who have historically been less involved in political or governmental activities.
