2024 Hell or High Water Farm CSA Update
In effort to reduce our carbon footprint and increase the efficacy of our sustainable growing practices in 2024, we are ceasing delivery to pick up locations in neighborhoods across King County. As such, CSA Shares may be picked up at our tent at the Capitol Hill Farmers Market in Seattle or at the farm in Enumclaw. Additionally, we will not be hosting a Facebook Group for our CSA Members this year. We hope these changes will yield positive opportunities to know your farmer and foster support in our community. We're excited to invite CSA Members back to the farm for seasonal gatherings and work parties this year, and we'll give you plenty of advance notice to mark your calendars!
Community Supported Agriculture
Delivery of our CSA will begin in mid-June, as we near the summer solstice, and will continue for 15 weeks ending in mid-October, as we approach the Persephone period, when plants cease growing in the fall. Breaks will be scheduled every few weeks throughout the season: the weeks of June 30th, July 28th, September 1st, and September 29th. Please be aware these proposed dates are estimates and may be subject to change due to seasonal conditions. Throughout the season, we may host work parties and potluck gatherings at the farm for all interested CSA members.

As we work on strengthening our resilience against a changing climate, it's important to note that unpredictable weather conditions might unexpectedly affect the availability of our products. Our CSA is a traditional community supported agriculture program. If you are new to CSA, please read the excerpt below from the USDA to learn more about the CSA model.

"Community Supported Agriculture consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farm becomes, either legally or spiritually, the community's farm, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production. In a traditional CSA model…

* Members share the risks and benefits of food production with the farmer.
* Members buy a share of the farm’s production before each growing season.
* In return, they receive regular distributions of the farm’s bounty throughout the season.
* The farmer receives advance working capital, gains financial security, earns better crop prices, and benefits from the direct marketing plan."
Work Share $0
Our Work Share program was a hit last year, so we're offering it again! Returning for the season, we are looking for hands-on support from our CSA community to help pack CSA Shares. By signing up for a Work Share, you commit to help us pack up vegetables for 2 hours every week of the CSA season. Work Share CSA Members must be available to join us at the farm on either Wednesday (FULL) or Friday from 1 PM to 3 PM most weeks from mid-June to mid-October. In return for your hands-on support, you will receive one Full Share for the 2024 CSA season. Only four Work Shares available this season; two each day.

Vacations
If you find yourself unavailable to pick up your CSA Share any given week, you have a few options. Consider asking a friend or neighbor to pick up for you. Friends and neighbors may be helpful allies, especially when lightly bribed with farm fresh goodies. If you can't find anyone to enjoy a basket full of farm fresh vegetables in your place, please notify us via email at least 7 days in advance.

Emails we send to CSA members sometimes end up in junk mail or promotion folders, especially if you are new to our CSA. When you sign up for our CSA, please add farmer@hellorhighwaterfarm.com to your Contacts. This should prompt your email provider to route our emails to your Inbox and help keep you informed and up to date about the CSA.

There may be times during the season when delivery may be delayed or postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. Delivery delays will be communicated as soon as possible, via email.

Member commitment
We believe CSA members are a part of our farm. The Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model provides a unique relationship between you and Hell or High Water Farm in which the farm benefits from your financial support early in the season by offering shares of the harvest, and in turn, you experience the benefits of eating locally grown food, knowing your farmers and seeing firsthand exactly where and how your food is grown. When harvests are abundant, shares will be plentiful. However, when harvests are low or crops fail all together, shares may be lean. Buying direct from local farms reinvests in your local economy, supports small business, and bolsters our local food system.
By checking here, I acknowledge that I understand as a CSA member, I share in both the bounty and the risks of growing food. I understand that the risks include poor harvests due to inclement weather or pests, predation on our poultry flocks, or loss of crops due to natural disaster such as fire, flood, or drought. I also understand the risks of a bountiful harvest season and the pressure of having so many tomatoes that you just don't quite know what to do with them all. *
