Our Lady of the Assumption Parish CONFIRMATION 2022
Dear Parents,

OLA will be celebrating Confirmations at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9am on the 18th of Sep, 2022. All children in Year 6 who have received the Sacraments of:

     - Baptism
     - Reconciliation, and
     - Holy Communion,

are eligible to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please contact Fr Michael ASAP if your child has not received the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, or Holy Communion. Listed below are the parish requirements regarding enrolment and preparation for Confirmation.

A SPONSOR
As far as possible each child should have a sponsor. The role of a sponsor is to help your child to be a true witness of Christ. A sponsor is to help your child faithfully fulfil their Christian duties for which they are strengthened and equipped in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Therefore, a sponsor must be a faithful and practicing Catholic themselves. A person from the eastern Orthodox Churches may act as a sponsor together with a Catholic. It is fitting if your child's Baptismal sponsor can also serve as their Confirmation sponsor. The sponsor's role is supportive of the parents' role. Therefore, parents cannot serve as sponsor for their own child.

PREPARATION SESSIONS
Candidates will be required to complete one section of the Confirmation Workbook, for four weeks, with their parents. Candidates from the parish are required to bring their Confirmation Workbooks to the parish Catechist or Fr Michael after Mass. Otherwise, candidates from OLA Primary School must show their Confirmation Workbook to their classroom teacher on Mondays, except in the 4th week of preparation when the Workbook should be handed in on the Friday, 16 Sep 2022. To clarify:

   - Candidates from the Parish are to return their booklets after a Sunday Mass on
Sun 27-28 Aug,
Sun 3-4 Sep,
Sun 10-11 Sep,
Fri 16 Sep (in the last week of preparation)

   - Candidates from OLA Primary School are to return their booklets on
Mon 29 Aug,
Mon 5 Sep,
Mon 12 Sep,
Fri 16 Sep (in the last week of preparation)

SUNDAY CATECHESIS
Our experienced parish catechist, Mrs Jill Hoenen, will be providing the opportunity for lessons at 10am on Sunday mornings. These will be particularly suited to preparing for Confirmation. Jill can help the children with their workbooks and in understanding the content. I highly recommend taking advantage of this assistance.

ATTENDING SUNDAY MASS
Candidates, their Catholic parent/s, and sponsors, are required to attend Sunday Mass. A Vigil Mass (sat evening) is also considered a Sunday Mass. Candidates will be provided with a form as a record of attendance. Please, ask the Parish Priest to sign this form at the conclusion of each Mass. All Candidates are required to return this form to Fr. Michael by Fri 16 Sep.

If you are going on holidays, please take care to consider where you will attend Sunday Mass. Weekday Masses do not substitute for keeping the Lord's Day Holy by attending Sunday Mass.

If your child is unable to attend because of illness, simply note this on the attendance form. In this circumstance it is good to make an effort, according to the circumstances, to say some prayers at home, such as the Rosary, or follow a Mass online.

REHEARSAL
All candidates will have the opportunity to rehearse with Fr Michael at 4pm on 16 Fri Sep at Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
