Westport Continuing Education 2022 Summer Counselor Application
Counselor positions are available at Discovery Camp at Greens Farms Elementary School, Sports & Fun at Bedford Middle School, Sports Fusion at Staples High School, and Westport Summer Teen Theater at Bedford Middle School. Additional opportunities may be available.

Lifeguards are needed to supervise campers during swimming time at the Staples High School pool. The hours are 9am - 12pm from Monday, June 27 - Friday, August 12.

At Discovery Camp, Counselors assist the Camp Director and teachers with the activities of summer camps, including arts and crafts, games/outdoor activities, STEM, and more. For Sports Camps, the Counselors help the Head Counselor with all of the sports and games activities, supervising children, and helping with equipment.

Counselors help with supervising children, ensuring that all campers are engaged and participating. The Counselor assists with set-up and clean-up of classrooms/outdoor spaces, bringing students to the bathroom or nurse, and helps with supervision during the transition of activities. Counselors also help to document camp activities by taking photographs.

The ideal candidate has prior experience supervising children and serves as a role model, building positive relationships and promoting a safe environment for campers to learn and thrive in a fun camp experience. Counselors need to exercise good judgment and initiative with a positive attitude. Counselors follow WCE policies and procedures and notify the Camp Director of any issues or concerns as it relates to schedule, facility, equipment or behaviors that need to be addressed. Training for COVID health & safety measures and childhood development will be provided.

Counselors should have completed at least their junior year of high school, be at least 16 years old, and have experience working with children, such as babysitting. Interviews with the WCE Director, Christine Jewell, will take place in March and April.

WCE is a division of Westport Public Schools, whose mission is to empower and inspire students to reach their full potential as lifelong learners and socially responsible contributors to our global community.
