The Arab American Association of NY is a community-based, grassroots organization that has been serving the Bay Ridge community for over 20 years. Every season, we run youth programs to give Bay Ridge and Arab/Arab American youth a space to learn new skills and organize with other young change-makers in our community.
Aktub is an after school writing program for Arab and Arab American womxn ages fifteen to nineteen. The mission of this program is to create a space for Arab writers that highlights the unique experience of Arab girls, and aims to understand and navigate challenges and obstacles through writing and transparency. Bringing together Arab girls with a passion and interest for writing, Aktub aims to provide a welcoming space for discussion and contemplation, as well as an educational resource in locating Arab stories.
The Aktub program will be held virtually and open to female-identifying, Arab/Arab American students from across NYC. The program will be led by Shrien Alshabasy, a writer, grad student of English at SUNY New Paltz, and experienced creative writing facilitator.
Our fall session of Aktub starts in March 2021 and we will meet Wednesdays after school.
