Stuy PA Survey: Report  Card Grades for the Third Marking Period
As you might be aware, for the second marking period all students will be receiving grades on the E/S/N/U scale. However, a decision regarding grades for the final semester hasn’t yet been made. For the third marking period, we cannot use these same ranges, as this is not an official DOE scale for MP3 transcript grades.

The DOE may require schools to use a specific grading scheme, but in the event that schools are allowed to select their own grading policy, we wanted to have a sense of which grading option is preferred. Please fill this out so that we can accurately represent parents' and guardians' voices in this matter. A similar survey has also been sent to all Stuy students and teachers.

Regardless of what system is chosen, all MP3 2020 grades will be contextualized by the circumstances of COVID-19 so please remind your student(s) not to stress too much.

Here is a detailed description of each option:

Option 1: 100, 99, 98, etc
Keep the ordinary grading scale for MP3. 100, 99, 98, etc. down to 90 then 88, 85, 80, etc. As usual, the grade a student gets is averaged into their GPA.

Option 2: E+, E, E-, S+, S, S- etc.
The DOE has a grading scale of E+, E, E-, S+, S, S- etc., where each letter corresponds to a numerical grade. The number corresponding to the letter on the report card would be factored into a student's GPA.
E+ 98
E 95
E - 93
G+ 88
G 85
G- 83
S+ 78
S 75
S- 73
N+ 68
N 65
N- 60
U 55

Option 3: A+, A, A-, etc.
The DOE has a grading scale of A+, A, A-. It has the same correspondence to the numerical grades as option 2 but A-F letter grades would appear on the report card instead of E- U letter grades. Just like E-U, the number corresponding to the letter would get factored into a student's GPA. The numerical equivalents are:
A+ 98
A 95
A- 93
etc. identical to option 2.

Option 4: Pass/Fail
Pass/Fail has no numeric equivalent. Gives student credit for class but would not affect their GPA.

Option 5: No Harm
Use normal MP3 grades (100, 99, 98, etc. down to 90 then 88, 85, 80, etc. as described in Option 1 above), but discard the lowest total grade earned in any one of the three marking periods. This lowest grade would not be included in the calculation of the final grade, which would, instead, be based on the average of the grades earned in the other two marking periods.
