Kentucky Country Day School (KCD) Merit Scholarships are prestigious awards that help reduce tuition costs for gifted, talented, and motivated students. Scholarships are available to students applying to be admitted to the school and entering grades 6 and 9.  Each scholarship is valued between $1,000  and $4,500 and will be offered for one school year.

These scholarships are awarded based solely on merit and are independent of financial need. Academic achievement, extracurricular participation, and strong citizenship are factors in the selection process. Desired qualities in applicants include the desire and drive to educate themselves to the very best of their ability and the demonstration of exemplary citizenship in accordance with KCD's core values of "citizen, scholar, steward."

Students who wish apply for Merit Scholarships must first apply for admission to Kentucky Country Day School. Prospective scholarship students must complete a merit scholarship application and the KCD Admission Test. The Merit Scholarship application also includes an important essay. The KCD Admission Test will serve as one of the deciding factors when the committee reviews Merit Scholarship applications. Applicants for Merit Scholarships must complete the early decision application process, including all required components of the application to be considered.

Applications for scholarships will be reviewed by a committee of KCD faculty, staff, and administrators comprising the Merit Scholarship Application Committee; a faculty member from the middle school (for grade 6 applicants) or from the upper school (for grade 9 applicants), the Assistant Director of Admission, and the Director of Enrollment Management. The Merit Scholarship Application Committee will recommend recipients to the Merit Scholarship Award Committee. Members of the Merit Scholarship Award Committee are as follows; Director of Enrollment Management, Director of Financial Aid, Director of Finance and Operations, and Head of School.

The application deadline for Merit Scholarship applications is Friday, January 8, 2021. The KCD Admission Test for prospective students will be administered on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 9:00am. Students must test at this time to be considered for Merit Scholarships.
