The Tall Woman by Wilma Dykeman

Published in 1962, The Tall Women tells the story of Lydia Moore McQueen and her East Tennessee community. Lydia marries shortly before the Civil War; her husband Mark fights for the Union and returns a changed man. Dykeman’s lyrical prose recounts the next twenty-five years of Lydia’s life, as her family grows and old tension simmer in the community. THS Executive Director Jennifer C. Core, who was a student of Dykeman’s, will join the discussion of this classic of Appalachian literature.
