In celebration of the 70th anniversary of alumna Toni Morrison’s (MA 1955) degree, the Toni Morrison Collective of Cornell University, in collaboration with the Toni Morrison Society, announces a symposium, “Toni Morrison: Literature and Public Life,” scheduled for September 2025*. Beyond her many accomplishments as a novelist, including the Nobel Prize in Literature (1993), Toni Morrison’s stature also as critic and public intellectual is the context for the symposium’s deliberations. During the three days of the symposium, keynote speakers, roundtable discussions, and panel presentations will consider questions that engaged Morrison’s creative and critical energies.
Proposals for papers and roundtable presentations are invited on topics listed below.
*Specific dates to be announced soon.
