Portola HGM After-School Enrichment Registration - Fall 2019
The Magnet Parents Association (MPA), in conjunction with our teachers, would like to offer some exciting after-school activities for Magnet students. To attend the Magnet after school enrichment class, you MUST fill out this form. Please register using this form by September 6. Your payment is due as soon as your spots are confirmed via email. Please register by September 6th. Payment is due as soon as your spots are confirmed via email. PayPal Payment is preferred and can be made at http://www.portolahighlygifted.org/enrichment.html.  If you are paying by check, please submit to the Magnet Office. Please do NOT give the payment to the homeroom teachers.

Space is limited, so admission is generally based on first registrations received. Classes could be cancelled if not reaching minimum number of students. There are no after school classes when school is not in session, minimum days, Halloween, and last week of school before winter recess. There is no late bus, so parents are responsible for picking up their children after class.

MathCounts 1st Semester (All Grades) - Ms. Toborowski
Students practice their problem solving skills via mathematics. This class helps students develop confidence and proficiency in mathematical problem solving.

Class Fee: $135

Wednesdays 3:05 - 4:05 PM: 09/25/2019 - 12/08/2019 (10 Meetings)

Minimum # of Students: 12

Model UN 6th Grade - Ms. Kang
Students develop confidence and leadership skills through experience. Model UN conferences are opportunities to practice research, public speaking, teamwork, negotiation, and writing skills in a safe and structured environment. Debate 6th/7th - Mr. Stevenson
Are you interested in developing your abilities in public speaking, argumentation, and persuasion? Learn not only how to debate, but to understand how to listen to opposing viewpoints and come up with persuasive counter-arguments.

Class Fee: $105

Science Fair - Ms. Gramajo
Students will gain extra help exploring science fair topics, devising study design, conducting experiments, and writing final reports following scientific methods, for them to be well prepared for Portola HGM Science Fair and beyond.

Suggested Donation: $135

Model UN 7th/8th Grade - Ms. Kang

Writers Lab 8th Grade - Mrs. Miller
Got writer’s block? Not sure why your ideas seem so jumbled? Confused about where that comma goes? Bring your questions and rough drafts to the Writers Lab where Mrs. Miller will reinforce grammar lessons for improved editing, provide extra practice to hone revision skills, and conference with students for individualized feedback on essays.
