Age Friendly South Portland (AFSP) is seeking volunteers ("Volunteers") who are willing to help shovel critical walkways and pathways around the residences of our senior neighbors who are unable to do so themselves.

Each person offering to participate as a Volunteer in the AFSP Snow Shoveling for Eligible Seniors Program (the “Program”) understands that the Program involves the following activity:

A. A Volunteer snow shoveler shall provide at least one (1) South Portland resident’s (a “Recipient’s”) household with snow-shoveling services for the entirety of the 2021-22 winter season.

B. The Volunteer shall, absent extraordinary circumstances, shovel the specific walkways and pathways requested by the Recipient within 24 hours following a weather event (i.e., the last snow fall/street plow) that results in “more than a dusting” of snow (though, the Volunteer can reach out directly to the Recipient to confirm shoveling needs, as wanted).

C. The Volunteer shall not use snow blowers or snow plows to satisfy the snow-removal services required of the Recipient; only snow shoveling is allowed.

D. The Volunteer shall use his/her own snow shovel to clear the walkways and pathways around the Recipient’s household.

E. The Volunteer shall coordinate directly with the Recipient in the event that his/her availability or capacity to shovel during a snow event changes or for other reasons/circumstances as needed.  In the event that communication with the Recipient is necessary, the Volunteer will do so by telephone and/or email, not in-person due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis.

At the end of this form, additional "Conditions of Being a Volunteer" are provided. Please read all terms carefully before signing and submitting this form to become a Volunteer.

As Recipients request snow-shoveling services, AFSP will be in touch with Volunteers, upon their acceptance and approval by the Program, individually to match them with their assigned household(s) and provide any additional specifications or details related to requests.
