Before attempting the quiz, you may read an overview of the topic given below which will make you feel easier to answer the questions.
Overview:
The plants are unique in nature as they only can prepare their own food because of the presence of a wonder pigment called chlorophyll in their leaves in a process called photosynthesis. Many breathing holes called Stomata are also present on the surface of leaves for exchange of gasses between the plants and the surroundings. Plants take in Carbon dioxide gas from the air and water from the soil through their roots and convert them to carbohydrates in the presence of sunlight. There are certain insectivorous plants in nature like the Pitcher plant and the Venus Flytrap plant which feed on insects to supplement their protein requirements as they used to grow on soils with poor nitrogenous salt content. Vegetative reproduction of plants consists of reproduction by their vegetative parts like leaf, stem and root. Another kind of reproduction involves the formation of seeds in specific parts of their flowers that attract insects for pollination, a process in which seeds are formed. The seed is covered by a hard Seed coat to protect the seed from external shocks. Cotyledons are the seed leaves that store food for the baby plants. Seeds require the right conditions of air, water and warmth for germination, the process by which a seed grows and develops into a young plant. All the seeds of a plant do not germinate because they don't get all these favourable conditions. The process of transfer of seeds to different places from the original ant is called the Seed dispersal.Various natural agents like wind water, birds, humans and animals help in seed dispersal. Some fruits also burst or crack naturally dispersing their seeds.
