At-Home Catechesis Documentation

Our Bishop wrote a letter in June 2022 outlining his concerns regarding the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Bishop Zarama expressed his concerns about the age of reception in our diocese and the heart (or lack thereof) for our young people receiving the sacrament. “Because of these concerns, [he is] asking that preparation for and celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation be directed toward and take place in 10th grade. [He realizes] that this may be a shift in practice for some parishes, but it is [his] hope that this shift will allow for even better catechesis to our young people and enable them to begin asking those questions that will allow faith to take a deeper root in their lives (Letter, June 8, 2022).”

Per the Bishop’s directive to “shift [to] allow for even better catechesis to our young people and enable them to begin asking those questions that will allow faith to take a deeper root in their lives,” we are requiring all youth desiring to register for Confirmation Year 1 to show continuing catechesis since First Holy Communion. This includes:

  • Participation in a parish program [Elementary (K-5), Carpe Diem (6-8), or Vita Nova (9-12)], OR
  • Completion and documentation of at-home catechesis, OR
  • Attendance at Catholic school.

As parents, if you desire to instruct your children via At-Home Catechesis, please submit a separate form for each child by October 1st, 2022. Thank you!
