The National Park Service (NPS) and East Carolina University (ECU) have collaborated to bring new opportunities to wounded veterans by giving them the chance to conduct meaningful underwater research. Research has shown psychological and physiological benefits of participation in outdoor activities, scuba diving, and connection with peer support groups for veterans with service-related injuries. Ongoing work in National Parks allows veterans to use military skills and training to work towards a common goal with peers in a rehabilitative environment.
