LAG Tskaltubo is happy to invite you to the international conference: The Future of Rural Towns and the Role of LEADER for Revival that will be held in town Tskaltubo, Georgia on October 12-15, 2022. 

The conference agenda includes two main parts: conference and study tours. The conference will discuss the perspectives for revival of rural towns through LEADER/CLLD, presentation of national rural development strategies, focus group workshops, sharing European experience and success stories. The study tours will cover Georgian traditional culinary, touristic attractions, projects supported by LAG Tskaltubo and of course, Georgian folk music and dance events. 

Please, fill the registration form individually and share the details of your travel to ensure the conference goes well. 

Tskaltubo is a spa resort, a rural town in West Georgia, that was very popular among tourists and locals in the Soviet era. The resort houses thermal water springs that cure more than 70 diseases. The thermal springs are surrounded by 78 hectare of park. In addition, the municipality is known for its caves that have healing powers. Due to the economic and political crisis, the tourism development plateaued and most of sanatoriums (total 22) that still have impressive architecture were abandoned. Time by time, the state and business started to invest and revive the former Soviet resort.

We offer the transfer from and to Kutaisi Airport. 

If you need to extend your stay in Tskaltubo, additional costs will be incurred that will be negotiated individually.

Study tours 


We are offering 3 study tours that will introduce you to the touristic attractions of our region, culture and Georgian cuisine and the projects supported by LAG Tskaltubo. Please, have a look at the tours in next sections and choose one that interests you the most.
Study tour 1

Study tour 1:

  • Architecture and photography tour in Tskaltubo – Stalin Era sanatoriums are cultural monuments and renovation process has been launched. In total, Tskaltubo has 22 sanatoriums that were abandoned in the 90s or internally displaced people were allowed to settle in. Currently,  the state announced a plan to sell the buildings to attract investors. 
  • Sataplia Cave – Sataplia will surprise you with its unique sightseeing. Discover historical-cultural places, see dinosaur footprint and karst cave. After visiting the territory, unique Colchic forest and glass panoramic view, you will realize that it is a must-go destination. There are arranged 2 tourist trails on place, thus enjoy hiking, museum, and exhibition hall as well. 
  • Camping Space in Tskaltubo – LAG supported project offers visitors safe place for camping, rest and entertainment. Here you can prepare Georgian traditional dishes such as Mtsvadi (barbeque) by yourself. 
  • Lunch in Camping Space 
  • Niko Lortkipanidze Museum in village Chuneshi – Niko Lortkipanidze was famous writer and important public figure in the history of Georgia. He was from village Chuneshi, Tskaltubo Municipality. The Museum is the best example of Imeretian Oda (architectural style of house). The garden of the Museum is full of trees that age more than 100 years. The theatrical performance will make you to travel in old times and discover the traditions of aristocratic evenings in imeretian families.
  • Traditional dinner - “Sufra” and culinary masterclasses in accordance of folk music and dance concert in Prometheus Epic Hotel

  • Kutaisi City tour – Kutaisi is the second biggest city of Georgia with huge history, culture and traditions. Kutaisi was the first capital of Georgia. The Greek legend of King Aiet, Medea and Iason has historical roots with Kolkheti Kingdom and its capital Aia – Kutaisi. It should be mentioned that public figures, artists that made very important contribution in culture and political processes even against Russian occupation were from Kutaisi. The tour offers to discover city sights and visit Bagrati Cathedral that was built by Bagrat III, the first King of United Kingdom of Georgia in 1003 as a symbol of union.
  • The Bee House in village Gumati - LAG project that produces different types of honey products in accordance of national standards. The Bee House offers visitors tasting of different honey-based products and participation in its preparation. 
  • Porto Gumati – LAG project that offers visitors wooden cottages, glamping, boat tours on river Rioni, one of the biggest rivers in Georgia and beautiful sights in countryside. You are welcome to experience boat tour. 
  • Lunch in Porto Gumati
  • Prometeous Cave - Prometheus Cave may regard as the visit card of Georgia.  The magic cave is full with stunning curtains of stalactites and stalagmites. While visiting, once again it will convince you about existence of the fairy world. Prometheus Cave is located in Tskaltubo municipality, village Kumistavi. There are 22 halls found, where just 6 halls are open for tourists. It is possible to walk through the length of 1420 meters in the cave's territory visit the halls and enjoy boat tour by walking the river. Discover real masterpieces of nature - stalactites and stalagmites at Prometheus Cave, which are the most beautiful forms created by nature. While visiting the cave, hanging waterfalls are waiting for you. 
  • Wine Museum – Museum is located near the Prometheus Cave and tells the story of the traditional winemaking in Georgia. Georgia is declared as the homeland of winemaking and historical facts prove it. Georgian traditional way of winemaking is producing wine in “Kvevri” (special clay dish) that it also unique technics in the world.

  • Otia Ioseliani museum and brewery – Otia Ioseliani was the famous writer and public figure of modern era. His novels are translated in 6 foreign languages. His family arranged museum in his house and started entrepreneurship in winemaking and brewery. The brewery was supported by LAG Tskaltubo. 
  • Herbia (vegetables exporter company) – Producing vegatables and greens is the leading field of agriculture in Tskaltubo Municipality. The biggest company that produces high quality vegatables and greens is located in Tskaltubo. The products are exported abroad included European countries. 
  • Lunch at Imeruli Ezo
  • Martili Canyon - Visitor Centre of Martvili Canyon is located in the village Inchkhuri. 700 meters circular hiking trail starts from the visitors' centre and passes through Dadiani's historic walkway. There are 2 bridges, 3 viewing platforms, and 30-step historic staircase that is built from limestone staircase. Here you have the opportunity to take a trip by boat, 300 meters (one way) section of Abasha and enjoy the beautiful views of canyon. Here you have a great chance to enjoy diving and explore beautiful places under the water. Please, put hiking clothes into the backpack. 
  • Free time in Park and springs in Town Tskaltubo
