#PerfMatters Conference (
https://perfmattersconf.com) is the Web Performance Conference taking place in Redwood City, CA March 31, and April 1, 2020. (No joking!) The venue is located halfway between San Francisco and Silicon Valley, accessible via the San Francisco (SFO) and San Jose (SJC) airports (The venue is actually equidistant from SFO, SJC, and the Oakland International Airport, but Oakland can be a little bit more of a hassle).
Our audience is made up primarily of engineering students, software engineers, web developers, performance engineers, technical managers, and CTOs. Part of the program is curated, with most slots being filled by this Call for Presentations. We don't want a sales pitch. We are looking for people passionate about performance who are able to speak effectively and from experience, and who understand our audience of developers. This is a single-track conference. Being a single-track conference, we are more flexible with talk lengths.
If your talk is selected, you'll receive:
• a ticket to the conference
• accommodation during the conference (let us know the # of nights)
• economy travel expenses (let us know your base airport) if needed
• childcare assistance (let us know well in advance if needed)
• speaker dinner and, likely, a speaker, family and friends tour of San Francisco or similar day-long event (if the speakers are interested - last year there wasn't much interest, so we provided an on your own tour of Alcatraz.)
• support from our team at all stages of your participation – from talk acceptance until you get home after the event
We do welcome proposals from less-experienced speakers and can help you with resources both in submitting and effective proposal and presentation preparation. We actively encourage submissions from individuals from groups who consider themselves underrepresented on stage at technical conferences. For a better chance of getting accepted, make sure you explain how your talk is relevant to front end web performance.
The CFP will close on December 1, 2019. You will be notified (hopefully) no later than 20 December if you are invited to speak. If you’ve purchased a ticket in the meantime, we will refund it if you are invited as a speaker; or, you can donate your ticket to someone who would otherwise be unable to attend.
Programming decisions are made by the organizers and are final. Omitting answers to the last two questions will negatively impact your proposal's chances.
Please follow @perfmattersconf on Twitter, or at least open up your DMs to that account. If there are any delays or issues, it will be announced on that Twitter feed and in our slack channel. You can join slack at
